One of the things that I have a great affinity for living in Los Angeles are the weepholes that I see along the freeway. In fact, I've been photographing them since the mid 1990's. These tiny vents found along the bottom of the huge cement barrier walls that line the road release built up water hidden behind the wall and then ooze sludge down onto the freeway. So you see, the city weeps and the tears silently stain the walls as the cars roar past.
I've come to notice that a lot of my work has dealt with weeping, staining, and trying to find a way to release sometimes unbearable emotions, so I guess it should come as no surprise that I should identify with these little weepers but, don't worry, sometimes plants grow from them too.
